Property Taxes

Property Taxes in the 3rd District have soared over the last decade. Many constituents have seen doubling, tripling and even quadrupling of their assessments.

The reason? The 3rd District has seen an overabundance of development. This has been great for Milwaukee, in that it’s added to the overall tax base, but it’s also caused an increase in all surrounding property assessments, and put an unfair burden on East Side and Riverwest residents.

My plan for reducing the lopsided tax burden includes spreading future development throughout the city and ending the concentration of development on the East Side.

Additionally, as your Alder, I will take leadership on freezing taxes for low-income, senior homeowners, allowing them to stay in their homes after their mortgages are paid off. I know this would take working with the state on a constitutional level. If we’re going to change the state constitution, let’s do it to benefit one of our biggest resources, the elders in our communities!

I’m also excited to take leadership in fueling a revitalization of jobs in Milwaukee, by focusing on environmental technology to bring us into a booming and hopeful future. Our businesses will share in creating the wealth of our city.
