Lawns to Gardens by Sura, October 22
Here’s an interesting page from a website site called Food Not Lawns
It points out that Americans spend almost $30 billion per year on their lawns. These lawns, often chemical-saturated, could produce enough organic vegetables for thousands of families, using much less water, and caring for our environment.
lots of interesting information!

That’s so true! I think lots of people don’t even like lawns, but there’s a huge stigma against the person on the block who doesn’t have a perfect lawn. Is there something low-cost that individuals can choose to do that still looks like lawn? I think I once heard about a group that had some tips but I can’t remember what it was called…

There is a national organization, started in Milwaukee, called “Wild Ones.” This is the statement from their website (I’ll add the site under “Links”)
Wild Ones: Native Plants, Natural Landscapes promotes environmentally sound landscaping practices to preserve biodiversity through the preservation, restoration and establishment of native plant communities. Wild Ones is a not-for-profit environmental education and advocacy organization.
